Methodology

This isn't your granddaddy's BI platform.

BI Consulting Group has broken new ground in the approach to successful implementation of Business Intelligence and Oracle BI Enterprise Edition . Starting with requirements development and continuing through delivery and support, our unique approach ensures that business users get the Insight that they're looking for, not just the reports they've been asking for.

While other consulting organizations will begin the process by asking "what reports do you want?", our process goes much deeper.

We combine the best of the traditional sequential approach for guaranteeing successful delivery of data warehouse requirements, with a custom iterative approach to Dashboard design, delivery and acceptance. In the time that it takes other consulting organizations to deliver a single iteration of a Dashboard release, BI Consulting Group will typically deliver 5 - 6 iterations, resulting in a solution that is correct, not just the one that was asked for.

Our design approach takes advantage of Enterprise Edition's ability to rapidly prototype - we produce our design documents using Enterprise Edition itself rather than the more traditional approach of using Excel or Visio. While other consulting organizations are still finalizing what will be the single iteration of design, we’ve already produced 2 - 3 Dashboard releases.

BI Consulting Group's "Iterative" Methodology

Too many consulting organizations still believe that you design a BI system the same way you design an operational system. That approach has three failings: First, it causes IT to disappear for months at a time causing project sponsors to wonder where their dollars are going; second, it delivers a result that may only be 50% correct, causing users to say "I know that's what I said, but it's not what I meant"; and third, it re-enforces the incorrect attitude that business intelligence is about reports, not insight. Our approach is custom to BI Consulting Group and results in multiple releases of Dashboards and multiple interaction points with the users and sponsors, resulting in users saying "That's EXACTLY what I wanted".
